Radio Adds

As part of the course the students were asked to create a unique and original radio add for a product of their choice. The classes wrote the script, voiced, and composed their adds from scratch! They also created all the sound effects & sound designed.

Our afternoon class invented a company called Morningwood Flooring

Jason, Pascal & James editing the add

Jason & Pascal creating the wood noises

Look out for deals on 'the pleasure plank', 'untreated european' & 'squeaky cedar' - with special a special guest appearance from 'Dick Love'!
and remember - get the good wood

This track is a must listen - definitely the most memorable and entertaining radio add I've ever heard!

The evening class took a more realistic approach and wrote an add for a pre-existing product - The Kaotica Eyeball

Josh & Kathleen discussing production ideas

Kathleen capturing that authentic flushing sound

The guys did a great job incorporating all the technical features of the Eyeball, and were even paid a visit by the owner of the company and creator of the product during their production!

drum micing from a musicians point of view

Happy Graduation!!

July 2012 Graduates

Congratulations to Ryan Murphy (left) and Jordan Dobbelsteyn (right) on their successful completion of The Alberta Academy of Recording's summer class!
Both students did exceedingly well throughout the course and completed some amazing mixes. It was truly a pleasure to watch both of these young producer/engineers work their magic and grow their production experiences, techniques & styles. We expect big things from both of these guys!!

Ryan will be taking over live sound at the Blind Beggar on Thursday nights original music jam, and graduated with marks high enough to allow him to work as a freelance engineer out of Alchemy Studios Inc.

Jordan's passion for recording, and creating the ultimate drum sound will no doubt lead him to do great things and push the boundaries of metal recording.

All the best to you both!!

AAR Students Engineer Theme Music

Current students of the Alberta Academy of Recording have completed engineering the opening credit theme for an upcoming independent film series. This track is truly one of a kind, and was a great experience (and credit) for the students. Jordan & Ryan got experience working with Mandolin, bongos, and various percussion instruments while working on this track. They also gained very valuable sound design experience, and had to create multiple mixes to be used as incidentals, as well as for the end/closing credits.

Local Music Critic Talks with AAR Students

We have started a new class at The Alberta Academy of Recording!!

Last week, local music critic Wilhelm Princeton, whose works are published regularly across North America, came in to speak with the students about mixing from a critics point of view. Discussion topics included the evolution of mixing, genre specific mixing,
how a mix impacts a critique & audience, current and emerging industry trends, mastering, the business of mixing and so much more! Wilhelm gave the students an unbiased, and uncensored view into the world of critiquing, and mixing music, as well as some tips on how to get into the industry and what the next industry wave is going to be.
Thank you Wilhelm for lending us your expertise!
